The budget proposal grows to $323.3 million
Where the added money would go, coastal tide precautions and free open studios.
Sewer pipes, waterway dredging and environmental remediation each account for $900,000 in additions to Coral Gables’ proposed budget. The first public hearing on the revised spending plan is September 15, with the property-tax rate still up for a vote.
The fiscal 2027 plan is $4.86 million larger than July’s proposal, according to the Gazette’s September 10 report. Added capital funding includes $900,000 apiece for sewer-pipe rehabilitation, Ponce Corridor waterway flood mitigation and dredging, and environmental remediation at 72nd Avenue.
The proposed property-tax rate remains 5.559 mills. Rising taxable values mean it would bring in more revenue; the rate is 6.94% above the calculated rate for roughly flat revenue from the existing tax base. July’s unanimous vote set a tentative ceiling, and commissioners can still lower it before adoption.

Check bridge clearance before leaving the dock
For boating on Coral Gables’ waterways, higher tides mean less clearance under bridges. Miami-Dade advises checking the tide before leaving the dock during its predicted September 10–13 king-tide period.
Along the city’s coast and very low-lying areas near waterways, heavy rain, strong winds or large waves can worsen flooding. If a road is flooded, take another route; the county warns against driving through floodwater because it can damage vehicles.
A tighter circle around DeSoto Fountain
At DeSoto Plaza, every approach except Granada Boulevard has stop signs. The city’s redesign would shift to yield controls, remove pavement and widen the landscaped apron around the fountain.
Staff outlined the plan at the August 27 Transportation Advisory Board meeting, reported by the Gazette September 7. Sidewalks and crosswalks would extend around the circle, including access for people heading to Venetian Pool.
A $1 million state transportation grant would fund the project. The city anticipates construction in late 2027 or early 2028 and plans to assess the fountain’s condition before work begins.
